    E-Learning...Learning Styles

A Few Thoughts On Learning

The High Q emphasis in all its courses is learning. Each individual has differences in learning style and learning ability. These differences are difficult, if not impossible, to accommodate in a classroom environment. The teacher must necessarily gear the class toward some middle ground. Years of experience provide the teacher a sense of where this middle-ground compromise lies.

With tutoring, however, the individual can be fully accommodated. A common example of this is private music lessons. Tutoring, of course, is an expensive method for general education.

High Q offers an economical and effective learning method designed to accommodate the individual. The use of a personal computer with multi-sensory, interactive, and, most importantly, student-directed presentations is the superior method.

The High Q presentation method is easy to use, providing the student total control of the learning environment through an extensive array of commands.

Consider two differences in learning style. For some, a sequential approach is appropriate and desired. The High Q interactive Table of Contents fills this need. Lesson 1 followed by Lesson 2, and so on, are identified and available for entering the course. The lessons, however, can be taken in any order the student wishes.

For others, intuitive learning prevails. "Jump in, the water is fine" seems to sum it up. The High Q topical references --- called Knowledge Nodes --- provide just such a method. The Knowledge Nodes allow course entry at any point for any topic. One topic leads to another. "With this approach the course can be taken inside out," suggested one of our students.

For many people, a combination of sequential and intuitive learning is appropriate. The important idea is that both are available, and the student is in control.

There is another aspect of learning designed into High Q courses. Many students do not learn well if they are presented with rules to memorize. They learn best and retain best when the underlying principle is understood. High Q courses are carefully constructed to provide the fundamental underlying principles and concepts.  This is accomplished in Chapter One of each course.  Further details and amplifications then follow.

Regardless of your individual learning preference, you will succeed with High Q learning because you are in control!
